Edward Francis Garrett, Jr.
August 20, 1932 - April 1, 2014
Edward F. Garrett, Jr., 81, died April 1, 2014. He was born in New York City August 20, 1932, to the late Edward Francis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Garrett. The family moved to Crotonville, NY in his early years and Ed settled there with his own family.
After graduating Ossining High, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 during the Korean War. He returned to his job as a butcher at the A'P in Ossining. Following recuperation from repeated back surgeries, he worked at St. Augustine Cemetery as superintendent until retirement in 1997.
Ed married Evelyn (Enersen) in 1954 at St. Augustine’s RC Church, where he was a communicant. He enjoyed world travel, playing softball at Gerlach and Veterans Parks, and later meeting friends at Parker-Bale American Legion Post for liquid refreshments. The Post’s meeting room is dedicated to Ed.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, three children: Meg (Bob) Beutel, Ed (Vera), and Bob (Trina); eight grandchildren: Bryan, Mark, and Chris Beutel, Kimberly, Brittany, Phillip, Robert and Alexandra Garrett, and by his sisters: Edith Carey and Helen Peterson. His brothers Jack, Richie and Phil predeceased him.
Ed cherished his family, and was beloved by many. He was called “Uncle Ed” by his nieces, nephews and those who knew him, and “Pop” by his grandchildren - his pride and joy.
