Valerie Theresa Mujica Senato
Passed away - August 27, 2020
Valerie Theresa Mujica Senato passed away on August 27 at the age of 69.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Theresa Senato, and her four-legged “family”: Choco, Orion, and Perseus.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Mujica Senato and his wife Kelly Ennis Senato, her two sisters, Carolyn Valvano and Theresa Senato Edwards and Doug Edwards, her brother in law; nieces and nephews, Thomas (TJ) and Erin McLoughlin, Heather and John Evans, Frankie and Chrissy Valvano, Richard Senato and Troy Edwards; her great nieces and nephew, Jenna and Ava Evans, Brooke and Landon McLoughlin, and Cayla Grace Valvano.
Valerie flourished in retail and spent 20 years enjoying this profession. From retail she moved on to mental health in an administrative position, to grass roots social work as a case manager, to social worker, knowing that the challenges as well as the happiness, meaning, and rewards she found in being of service to others could be achieved completely as a social worker.
Valerie had a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from SUNY Purchase, and a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University, with a specialization in Children and their Families and with honors from Fordham’s Jesuit Honor Society. She was also a licensed clinical social worker in New York.
She was an avid reader, loved to shop, especially for clothes, enjoyed coloring, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Sudoku, Scrabble, and Candy Crush. She loved spending time in York Beach, ME, and Lake George, NY, with her family, and in Deep River CT, with her sisters.
She was a strong, independent woman and wonderful mother, sister, aunt, friend, and therapist. Her commitment to family and friends has left us with cherished memories, and we were blessed to have her as part of our lives.
Her life-long goal was to help people by fostering hope. She felt, in her words, that “hope welcomes determination and focus which can result in positive change… that hope is the doorway that unlocks our inner strengths and fuels our use of these strengths to achieve our goals, to achieve happiness.”
We will miss all the hope and love that she gave to each of us.
