Vincent J. Patalano
May 20, 1933 - June 15, 2020
Vinny, 87, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Ossining, New York, died peacefully on June 15, 2020 at his home in Fort Lauderdale surrounded by his loving family.
Vinny was born in Manhattan, NY on May 20, 1933.
At age 5, upon the death of his mother Florence (Truss) Patalano, he was raised by John and Edna (Truss) Hofer in Ossining, NY. Vinny was affectionately known as “Junior” to his family and friends from “Crotonville” while growing up. Vinny attended St. Augustine’s Catholic School and started his day by serving as an altar boy for daily Mass. Vinny graduated from Ossining High School in 1952, where his great athletic ability was showcased in football and baseball.
After graduating from Ossining High School in 1952, Vinny enlisted in the United States Air Force. Vinny served honorably as Airman 1st Class in the Emergency and Crash Rescue Unit until his discharge in 1956.
On April 16, 1966, Vinny married Lucy Blasetti. They remained married for 46 years before she passed away in 2012.
Vinny joined the Yonkers, NY Police Department in 1964 and graduated from the NYC Police Academy. He was assigned to the 4th Precinct in Yonkers and retired in 1987 with the rank of Detective 1st Grade. Vinny loved his job investigating crimes and apprehending the perpetrators. He vividly remembered his most interesting case, that of Alex Mengel in 1985.
Vinny was an avid softball player and was a member of several teams throughout his life. He also coached the sport for the American Legion Parker Bale during the 1970s and 80s.
In the late 1990s Vinny and Lucy moved to the Ocean Summit Condominiums in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Vinny was proud of his many years as a board member and president of the Condo Association. Vinny and Lucy loved spending endless days on the beach with their new friends and especially enjoyed visits from family and friends from NY.
In between playing softball and golf, Vinny’s favorite times were socializing with many of his Yonkers PD buddies living nearby.
Vinny is survived by his son Vincent Patalano, Jr. (Janet) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and his daughter Dawn Falco (Vincent) of Tuckahoe, NY; grandchildren Vincent and Danielle Patalano and step-grandchildren Michael, Tara and Vincent Falco; sisters Rose Mackin and Rita Annese; nephews Gary and David DiPillo, Anthony and Tommy Manzo, Marc, Mike, Matt and Mitch Patalano, Brian and Sean Mackin, Nick Annese and many more nieces and nephews.
