Rena S. Murray
November 9, 1956 - June 4, 2020
Rena S. Murray was born November 9, 1956 to Mr. John Tomlin of the Bronx and the late Mrs. Martha Murray-Sutton of Ossining, New York.
Rena was a life-long resident of New York.
She was God-fearing, faithful, committed, gentle, loving, full of positive energy and always gave back to her community.
She courageously battled a debilitating form of lung cancer.
Rena entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the tender age of 63.
She confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Star Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ossining, and was a faithful member of Mt. Olivette Baptist Church.
Rena worked at the Salvation Army at the Peekskill location as an Office Manager for 18-years and served on their Women’s Ministry. She assisted families in need on a day-to-day basis with support and encouragement that they would ordinarily go without (meals, supplies, gifts, toys, etc.).
Rena always knew what to say that would make everything okay. She gave hugs that would warm your soul and could make you feel as if you were one of her own. She was a beautiful woman with an affectionate smile that could light up a room.
Rena was loved by many; and she was the epitome of a Black Queen who wore her crown proudly.
Our beloved Rena was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend. She enjoyed serving and giving back to her community. Often, Rena reminded loved ones how much she loved them; and of course, that, “God is good!”
Rena was proceeded in death by her Mother, Martha Murray-Sutton, and sister Sherri Dungie.
Left to cherish her legacy are devoted Father John Tomlin, and Daughters Keeya Murray and Kyann Murray-Carr, both of Ossining, and Stepson Derrick Banks of Connecticut. Five Grandsons, Keon Ervin, Kayvon Murray, Jahmad Thomas, Caleb and Kaden Nabors. Seven siblings, Nadine Murray, Candace Barrett, Beverly Tomlin, Damon Murray, Kendall McFarlane, Darcey Murray, and Corey Tomlin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
