Mrs. Mafalda “Muffy” Ferraro (née Pregno)
October 14th 1927 - August 5th, 2018
Mrs. Mafalda “Muffy” Ferraro (née Pregno) died peacefully at home on August 5th, 2018 in Saline, MI at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Secondino Pregno, and her companion of thirty years, Mr. Ralph Dignan.
Muffy is survived by her children, Ms. Linda (Ron Salvatore) Ford and Mr. Steven (Tina) Ferraro; of Lake Peekskill, New York (NY) and Saline, Michigan (MI) respectively. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Steven, Emily and Evan Ferraro.
Muffy was born on October 14th 1927 in Isola D’Asti, a small town in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, to Ernesto and Enrica Pregno (née Patrucco). Her family immigrated to the United States in 1929, when she was two years old, and she and her brother grew up in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan’s west side. She graduated from the Manhattan High School of Women’s Garment Trades in 1945 and started her career in New York’s garment district with Hattie Carnegie, Inc. She married Charles Ferraro, her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, an electrical engineer, in 1952 and they welcomed two children into their lives. Her children remember her as a kind and hardworking mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Muffy was accomplished at dressmaking and ran a small alterations business out of her home in Briarcliff Manor NY for a time after the death of her husband in 1973. She was a generous individual who loved reading and who was interested in fashion and physical fitness. While residing in Ossining NY she was a member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church parish.
For her 90 years, Muffy was a fighter from the time of her family’s immigration to the United States up until her last breath. She instilled an unwavering honesty and work ethic in her children. Her approach to life lives on in her surviving family and her love and support will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital in Muffy’s name at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=home-btn-donate-now.
