Billy “Buzzy” Shelton Denny, Sr.
September 14, 1938 - April 29, 2018
Billy “Buzzy” Shelton Denny, Sr., 79, passed away on April 29, 2018 at his home in Ossining, NY.
Born on September 14, 1938 in North Wilkesboro, NC, Bill was the only child of the late Magdalene “Peggy” Denny and Laymon Vecue Waugh both formerly of North Wilkesboro, NC. A longtime resident of Ossining, NY, he was raised in North Wilkesboro, NC by his Grandparents Katie and Walter Denny.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Claudette “Shinny” (Kelley) Denny and Two sons, Billy S. Denny Jr, and Stephen C. Denny. He held a special place in his heart for his two grandsons Masefield A. Denny and Garrison B. Denny; Childhood friend and Brother-in-Law Caldwell Kelley Sr., Nieces and Nephews; Tom Smith, Sandra Kelley Rhodes, Caldwell Kelley Jr., Elisa Longuil, and Daughter-in-Law Traci Gardner (Stephen) Denny. He is remembered fondly by a host of family members from both the Denny and Waugh families, as well as many friends from North Wilkesboro, NC, Wilkes County, NC and Ossining, NY. He was also gifted with very special sisters/friends Maxine Smith, Gale Brown and Suzanne De Chillo whose friendships brought him immeasurable reassurance and joy over the last several years.
Bill retired in the early 2000’s after over 40 dedicated years as an equipment installer and supervisor with telephone companies Western Electric, AT'T and Lucent Technologies. A United States Air Force Veteran, he was always fond of aeronautical science, mathematics, engineering, and astrophysics. In his quiet moments he spent time reading complex texts of math formulas, astronomy, and working calculus problems just for the fun of it. His love for music and classic movies introduced his sons to a diversity of art and musical styles that continue to influence them to this day.
Bill always radiated an aura of strength and confidence which could only be overshadowed by his beaming smile, infectious laugh, and keen sense of humor. A man of reason and logic, he garnered respect reminiscent of men from a time long passed. Beneath his unwavering strength and steely stare, Bill held a deeply emotional and tender bond with his Wife, Claudette, seldom seen between two people anywhere at any time. Their love and devotion to each other through all of life’s challenges was for the ages and will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and them as a couple.
A private memorial service will be held at a yet undetermined time and place in the near future. Those wishing to attend should contact his son, Steve, at BillySDennySr.Memorial@gmail.com for information.
