Robert Charles Ciero
March 25, 1942 - December 23, 2017
Robert (Bob) Ciero, a longtime resident of Ossining, NY, and formerly of Yonkers, NY, died at home Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was born on March 25, 1942 in Yonkers, NY to Nicholas and Elizabeth (Feeney) Ciero.
Bob graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College, where he played outfield for Coach Eddie Pellegrini’s 1961 College World Series Team. He was a teacher and administrator at Yonkers High School, a former bar and restaurant owner, and at different times, coached the Yonkers High School men’s varsity basketball team.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of almost fifty years, Lorraine A. Ciero (nee Antonell). He is survived by cousins; his sisters-in-law, Ina (Antonell) Giniso of Sebastian, Florida, and Margaret (Antonell) Skrobola of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and by his brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Skrobola of Ann Arbor, Michigan; as well as ten nieces and nephews, forty-three grandnieces and nephews, and eight great-grandnieces and nephews, all of whom he and Lorraine loved and cherished as their own children. He was known as “Coach” to his players and colleagues and “Bullet” to his closest personal friends and fellow coaches, whom he loved as brothers. But he was faithfully and fittingly “Uncle Bob” to most.
He and Lorraine opened their home and hearts to everyone, hosting countless celebrations for family, friends, and neighbors over the years.
Lorraine and Bob made their summer home in Seaside Park, NJ, where - for over thirty years - they formed many cherished friendships and countless memories with friends and family. Bob’s special interests included spending time with friends and family, reading his daily papers, rooting for the Yankees, and watching horse-races with his friends and family. He loved listening to the classic musicians of the 1950s, whose melodies were a joyful companion (along with his dog, Mandy).
We love you, Bob, and we will miss you dearly.
