Diana R. Grass née Ruffalo
June 17, 1930 - July 2, 2016
Diana R. Grass née Ruffalo passed away on July 2, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Diana was born in Mount Vernon, NY on June 17, 1930 to Cora and Louis Ruffalo. She graduated from Davis High School. A trained nursing assistant, she volunteered her time to care for abandoned infants at the New York Foundling. Diana also worked at American Airlines in the Personnel Department before raising her family. Later in her life Diana returned to volunteering, spending 25 years at Phelps Memorial Hospital. During her illness, she never gave up hope that she would be able to return so that she could continue giving back.
Diana was devoted to her family and friends. She had a special ability to sense when people needed extra love or support and an endless capacity to nurture and comfort. Her home, and her heart, were open to all.
She is survived by three loving daughters (Andrea Mooney, Karen Kelsey and son-in-law David Kelsey, and Lizbeth Grass), three grandchildren (Ashley Cooper and her husband Tristan Cooper, Anders Kelsey, and Alexandra Kelsey), two great grandsons (Liam and Owen Cooper), her grandkitty Jake, and three cousins with whom she shared very special relationships - Stephen Salladé, Mac Bailey, and Linda Milne.
She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Andrew N. Grass, Jr. and her loving brother Louis M. Ruffalo, Jr.
We have heard countless stories of the love Diana poured out into the world, and we ask that in her memory you continue to sow the seeds of love she planted wherever she went.
Visiting will take place on Tuesday (7-9 p.m.) and Wednesday (2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.) at Dorsey Funeral Home with services on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Scarborough Presbyterian Church.
