Edward Joseph Cahill
March 8, 1935 - January 10, 2015
Edward Joseph Cahill, 79 of Scarborough Manor, Ossining, NY, formerly of Pleasantville and Yonkers, NY, began his journey to heaven to be with the Lord on January 10, 2015. He died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family at the Bethel Nursing Home in Croton, N.Y.
Edward was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, NY on March 8, 1935 to the late Joseph and Agnes (Girvan) Cahill. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, NY in 1952 and received a BBS degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY in 1956. He earned his MBA from Pace University, Pleasantville, in 1988.
For eight years (1953-1961), Ed was an active member of the Naval Reserve. He spent twenty years at Pepsico Corporation in a financial accounting role. After Pepsico, he went on to perform similar roles with The Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, CT and at JSK Construction Company for 15 years, in both Pelham and Yonkers, N.Y.
Edward married the love of his life, Louise Dziadzio, daughter of Joseph and Joanna Dziadzio, in 1959. This past year, they celebrated fifty- five years of marriage together. They dedicated their lives to raising their five children; Joanne, John, Jennifer, Scott and Sara-Jane. During his life, one of Edward’s top priorities for his children was their education. Together, he and Louise worked extremely hard to put all five children through college. Beyond the classroom, Edward encouraged his children to play sports, take music lessons, attend summer camps, travel and become exchange students to foreign countries. As a mentor and leader, Edward was active in volunteer roles with many organizations including The Pleasantville Dad’s Club and Indian Guides. In his earlier days, shortly after starting his family, he was a Big Brother to youths who needed a positive male role model in their lives.
Most of all, Edward loved sports. He won numerous medals in marble competitions as a young boy, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was an active member of the Pleasantville Dads Club, where he enjoyed coaching his children’s teams for many years including: Baseball, Football, Girls and Boys Basketball, and Girls’ Softball. Ed looked forward to his occasional trips to Atlantic City, and playing his favorite take five numbers.
Ed enjoyed traveling with Louise and with their special friends, Judy and Jean Rusin to Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Poland, and Bermuda among other trips. One special memory, on one of their trips to Italy in 1986, was a private meeting with the Pope, St. John Paul.
Upon moving to Ossining in 2004, he embraced the St Augustine community, volunteering his time to support the Italian Feast, St Patrick event, and being a member of the Golden Eagles.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife Louise Cahill, their five children; Joanne (Alan) Houghton, John (Wendy) Cahill, Jennifer (Kevin) McDowell, Scott Cahill, and Sara-Jane (Sean) O’Neill, their five grandchildren; Caitlin and Devin O’Neill, Pierce Houghton, Gabriel and Jack Cahill, their brother and sister in law, Henry and Vickie Malanowski, and many nieces and nephews.
